Specific objectives
Research Coordination
- Building up a scientific community of cascading climate impact modellers and experts that transcends disciplinary and sectoral boundaries and is established beyond the Action’s lifetime
- Supporting the provision of harmonised datasets and protocols for global and regional biophysical climate impact simulation studies and impact transmission chain modelling for Europe
- Providing novel methods and concepts to link biophysical climate impact models with impact transmission chain models to capture cascading climate impacts and responses to them
- Supporting the improvement of methods to conduct and analyse cascading climate impact simulations, e.g. by explicitly considering impact model uncertainties or by explicit hard- coupling of biophysical and impact transmission models
- Evaluating the coherence of existing and planned policies of the EU, the EU Member State, COST Countries and COST Near-Neighbouring Countries with regard to cascading climate impacts
- Engaging potential stakeholders from a wide range of sectors via various channels to co- create coherent 3 adaptation strategies that alleviate cascading climate impacts on their various sectors
Capacity Building
- Improving the technical skills of impact transmission chain modellers, especially of Young Researchers & Innovators (YRI), to handle large datasets and complex file formats from biophysical climate impact models and to understand the caveats of multi-model ensemble simulations
- Fostering the exchange of and the quality control of software and code developed to analyse cascading climate impact model simulations
- Supporting researchers to get acquainted with the main concepts, biophysical climate impact models, impact transmission chain models and datasets relevant for modelling cascading climate impacts to foster the development of models in countries where such efforts are currently still underrepresented and to bridge separate fields of disciplines involved
